What To Expect
The Closing of Bones Ceremony is a nurturing postnatal ritual rooted in traditional healing practices from various cultures. Historically, it has been used to support a woman’s recovery after childbirth, offering physical, emotional and spiritual healing. Central to the ceremony is the rebozo -a hand-woven shawl - used to gently cradle and rock the body. This sacred tradition honours the mother’s body, offering stillness, peace and reflection during the often overwhelming period of new motherhood. I learned this practice from traditional midwives who passed down their knowledge of how to honor a woman’s body after birth. The use of the rebozo reflects our primal need to be held, much like we are rocked in the womb and cradled as babies. The ceremony creates space for reflection and closure, marking the extraordinary journey of motherhood. When I introduced this practice to my community, many women sought it to symbolically close the circle of pregnancy and birth. While rituals often mark life’s major moments - birth, marriage, and death - there is often no ceremony to honour the profound achievement of motherhood. Closing the Bones fills that gap. This ceremony celebrates mothers and the beauty of their bodies, regardless of how they birthed their child. It’s a time for them to breathe, reflect and feel supported by their community. Who Can Benefit? Postnatal Recovery: Realigns the body and supports emotional healing after childbirth, whether 24 hours or years later. C-Section Recovery: Offers gentle comfort after the scar heals. Pregnancy or Baby Loss: Provides comfort and emotional release after miscarriage, stillbirth or abortion. Grief and Trauma: Helps release stored stress and trauma in the body. Menarche to Menopause: Supports transitions through all stages of womanhood. General Wellness: Helps any woman release stress and trauma, especially in the abdomen and pelvis. This unique ritual blends physical, emotional and spiritual healing. The rebozo’s firm yet gentle hold creates a sense of being "held" and "closed," providing deep support and security. Your session begins with setting an intention. You will lie comfortably on the floor, supported by cushions, as the rebozo cradles and rocks your body. You’ll then be wrapped in rebozos for deep relaxation and closure. The session ends with herbal tea and a moment to reflect. Sessions are by appointment only. Contact me at hayley@theheartsmystery.com for more info or to bo
